Young Saver Account
Mid Cornwall Credit Union Logo

If you are under the age of 16, you can open a Young Saver account, provided that your parent or guardian agrees.

To be able to open an account, you must live, be in full-time education, or live with someone who works in our common bond area.

You can deposit or withdraw money at any branch during its opening hours, but we may need to ask you to wait up to 7 days for a withdrawal.

Withdrawals of under £50.00 can be paid in cash, but larger sums will always be by cheque which can be cashed at a designated post office.

Until you are 12, you must obtain your parent or guardian's signature in order to withdraw money from your account.

Young savers are not members of the Credit Union, so they cannot vote, take out or act as a guarantor for loans or receive any dividend we may pay to shareholders. Instead, you will receive interest on your savings paid quarterly at a gross Annual Equivalent rate of 3%.

Once you reach the age of 16, you will become a Junior Member and can vote and hold shares subject to the same limits as a full member, but cannot take out or act as a guarantor for loans, nor be a Board Member or Officer in the Credit Union.

To open an account, come to any branch with your parent or guardian.

You will need to bring along either your birth certificate or your passport, and your parent will need one of these plus a utility bill showing their address.
